On April 30 at 7:30 p.m., Ben Folds will take the Sandler Center stage with 63 professional musicians, eight chorus members and Adam Turner, the resident conductor for the Virginia Opera. “Orchestras do rock,” Ben Folds said toward the end of his performance with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra on April 12. “What works at the end of the day is great music and giving people something they can't see anywhere else."
Ben Folds will feature his newly written piano concerto, as well as his pop hits. The evening’s purpose is putting forth a pop-rock-classical synthesis, and reminding audiences that orchestras have more vibrancy than the public sometimes gives them credit for. The concert is part of the Tidewater Mortgage Services, Inc. Great Performance Series.
