The Virginia Beach Human Services Department is now accepting registrations for the winter Bank On Virginia Beach classes. Choose one of the following classes:
· Begins Jan. 14 and meets the second Tuesday of each month, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Tidewater United Church of Christ, 2660 West Neck Road.
· Begins Jan. 16 and meets the third Thursday of each month, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Greater Thou Faith Ministries, 5606A Virginia Beach Blvd.
· Begins Jan. 18 and meets the third Saturday of each month, 9:30 to 11 a.m.at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, 118 Bishop Thoroughgood Ave.
Each class meets for 10 months and covers topics ranging from basic banking to money management and improving your credit. Participants will be introduced to the Mayor’s 500 Families Financially Fit for the Future Challenge and offered the opportunity to work one on one with a financial coach. All classes are free and open to the public.
On average, past participants have increased annual income by $469, built emergency savings exceeding $2,000, reduced debt by more than $7,000 and improved their credit score by 16 points.
