Whole Foods Market, Virginia Beach, presents Barton Seaver who will address, "The Communion of the Commons: Living in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed" on May 19 at 1 p.m. in the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center 3D Theater. A reception and book signing will be held afterwards from 2 – 4 p.m.
Seaver, a National Geographic Fellow recognized for his leadership in ocean sustainability, will share his global experiences to connect people, cultures, and ecosystems through food. His overall mission is to restore people’s relationship with the planet through dinner. “It’s about giving fish their proper place of respect on the plate,” stated Seaver. He is a chef and author as well as the newly appointed director of Harvard’s Healthy and Sustainable Food Program.
His books, “For Cod and Country” and, newly released, “Where There’s Smoke,” will be available for purchase and signing.

Sensible Seafood Fest
Thursday, May 23, 7 – 10 p.m.
The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center will host its fourth annual Sensible Seafood Fest May 23 from 7 – 10 p.m. The adults-only event showcases the Aquarium’s Sensible Seafood Program by offering tasty samples from 25 Sensible Seafood restaurant and business partners, as well as other food vendors. Local beer and wines will also be featured. The event’s title sponsor is PNC Bank.
As guests follow the food trail through the Aquarium’s Bay & Ocean Pavilion, they can visit exhibits and learn about regional efforts focused on restoration, sustainability, and environmental stewardship at educational booths provided by participants such as Buy Fresh Buy Local Hampton Roads, Lynnhaven River NOW, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, and Virginia Marine Products Board.
Guests can also vote on their favorite dish. Last year’s Sensible Seafood People’s Choice Award went to Swan Terrace Restaurant Executive Chef Scott Simpson. He will be conducting a cooking demonstration during the Sensible Seafood Fest.
