On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at approximately 11:32 a.m., Emergency Communications received calls concerning a three vehicle crash in the 1300 block of London Bridge Road. Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the scene and found two cars and a moped involved in a crash in the middle of the intersection at Shipps Corner Road and London Bridge Road.
The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was operating a 2012 moped northbound crossing from Drakesmile Road to London Bridge Road in the right lane. Ms. Fulgham, the victim, was struck by a 2009 Dodge Charger which was also northbound from Drakesmile to London Bridge Road. The Dodge Charger was struck in the driver’s door by a 2004 KIA Optima traveling eastbound from Shipps Corner Road to London Bridge Road causing the Charger to rotate counterclockwise. During the rotation, the back right corner of the Charger struck the moped causing the victim to go airborne onto the grassy area across the bike path just north of the intersection. Ms. Fulgham was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue.
MPO Keith Acosta, the lead investigator, would like any witness near the intersection yesterday morning to contact him at 385-4973 or 503-2576.
The case remains under investigation and charges, if any, are pending.
The victim has been identified as Traci Lynne Fulgham, 46, of the 800 block of Levy Loop, Virginia Beach.
Ms. Fulgham was wearing a DOT safety approved helmet.
Alcohol was not a factor in this investigation.
This case remains under investigation by the Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team with MPO Keith Acosta as the lead investigator.
