Grand Jury Returns 117 Indictments: Man Now Facing Capital Murder Charges in Double Murder at Rally’s

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced that a grand jury meeting in Virginia Beach Circuit Court today returned indictments against 109 individuals charging 263 separate offenses.

Deandre Leon Dunnaway, age 23, of the 600 block of Rivers Reach in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was indicted for Capital Murder – Multiple Victims, Capital Murder – Robbery, two (2) counts of First Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, three (3) counts of Use of a Firearm, and Conspiracy. He remains in custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for April 30, 2013. His co-defendant, Cheari Edwards, age 20, also of Rivers Reach, was indicted for two (2) counts of First Degree Murder, three (3) counts of Use of a Firearm, Armed Robbery, and Conspiracy. She also remains in custody and is due in court on April 23, 2013. Dunnaway and Edwards are charged in connection with a double murder at Rally’s on Lynnhaven Parkway on January 8, 2013.

The grand jury also indicted Nijel Isaiah Chambers, age 17, of the 5800 block of E. Hastings Arch in Virginia Beach, Virginia, for First Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm. Chambers is charged in connection with a murder in the Lake Edward neighborhood on November 17, 2012. He is a juvenile but was transferred to the Circuit Court to be tried as an adult due to the seriousness of the crime.
