On Thursday, February 14, 2013, at approximately 1:15 p.m., Emergency Communications received a report of a single vehicle crash in the 1400 block of Shore Drive. Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the crash and located a 2003 Honda S2000 with heavy passenger side and front end damage in the roadway.
The preliminary investigation revealed the driver was traveling eastbound on Shore Drive at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car and slid off the roadway striking several trees before coming to a rest back on the road surface. The passenger was pronounced at the scene. The driver was transported with non-life threatening injuries to a local hospital. Both individuals were wearing seatbelts and both airbags deployed. Alcohol does not appear to be factor in the crash.
The passenger has been identified as Gregory B. Welch, 18, of the 1300 block of Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach.
The driver has been identified as Stephen B. Clark Jr., 19, of the 3600 block of Sea Breeze Point Trail, Virginia Beach
Speed was a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues and any charges will be determined after conferring with the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney.
This case remains under investigation by the Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team with Officer Colin Mack as the lead investigator.
