On Monday, December 17, 2012, at 8:00 a.m., Drive Safe Hampton Roads’ Specialized Transportation Safety Committee will be working with the Virginia Beach Police Department Motor Carrier Safety Unit and six other Hampton Roads motor carrier safety units with State Police to conduct the 19th Annual Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Appreciation Day.
Additional sponsors include DMV: The Virginia Highway Safety Office, Motor Carrier Safety Inspectors, Chick-Fil-A at Salem Crossing and Parkway Plaza, Capital Concrete, Inc. and West Service Center. Santa Claus and the Chick-Fil-A Santa Cow will also be in attendance. This event is held during the busy holiday season to promote highway safety.
Drive Safe Hampton Roads and other Hampton Roads’ law enforcement motor carrier teams come together to distribute goodies during an “alternate type” of roadway safety regulation stop. Drive Safe Hampton Roads (DSHR) is a non-profit regional coalition whose goal is to increase the community's involvement and awareness of traffic safety issues, and reduce the number of crashes, injuries and fatalities on our roadways.
This event will be held on I-264 eastbound at South Independence Boulevard (Old Toll Plaza.) Commercial Drivers are encouraged to stop in to receive food, fellowship, and safe driving reminders.
Remember to Buckle up for Safety this Holiday Season!
