Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced that a grand jury meeting in Virginia Beach Circuit Court today returned indictments against 74 individuals charging 151 separate offenses.
Lawrence Anthony Norfleet, age 57, of the 8100 block of Grand Bay Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was indicted for Rape and Forcible Sodomy. A grand jury last month also indicted Norfleet for charges of Rape, Abduction, Object Sexual Penetration, and Unlawful Wounding (Strangulation). All charges stem from an attack on a young woman on July 20, 2012. Norfleet remains in custody at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center pending a trial in Circuit Court. There is a hearing scheduled for October 3, 2012 to select his trial date.
Pedro Juan Nunez, age 55, of the 3400 block of Kings Grant Road in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was indicted for Grand Larceny, Illegal Purchase of Precious Metals or Gems, and Failure to Keep Records of Precious Metals or Gems Purchased. Pedro Nunez owns Nunez Fine Jewelers on First Colonial Road in Virginia Beach. He is accused of switching the diamond in the victim’s ring with a substantially less valuable diamond. Nunez is on bond pending a trial on November 12, 2012 in Circuit Court. Of those defendants indicted today, over 28% face felony drug charges. Three (3) individuals were indicted for felony Driving Under the Influence. Those individuals are:
