Public Utilities to Facebook Fans: Tell Us Who Should Win

The Department of Public Utilities has announced the finalists for the 2013 Water Awareness Calendar Contest on its Facebook fan page.  This year, the department would like fans to share which drawings they want to see in next year’s calendar by “liking” their favorite finalists by April 6.

More than 900 entries were received from more than 40 Virginia Beach schools for this year’s Water Awareness Calendar Contest.  “There were so many great drawings submitted from students this year.  It’s been very tough narrowing them down,” said Tom Leahy, director of Public Utilities.

Over the next couple of weeks, the Department of Public Utilities will further narrow the finalists down to 13 winners based on, but not limited to: Best expression of theme, picture design, creativity, artistic skill and Facebook fan “likes.”  These winners will have their artwork prominently displayed in the 2013 Water Awareness Calendar and will receive $50 savings bonds presented by Mayor Sessoms at an official awards ceremony during Drinking Water Week in May.  The department will also select 27 honorable mentions to feature in the calendar.
