The City of Virginia Beach will hold a budget open house on Thursday, April 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000 19th St. Representatives from all city departments will be on hand to answer questions from citizens about their budgets and services. This is not a public hearing, only an informational session.
City Manager James K. Spore will present his proposed budget to the City Council on March 27 at 6 p.m. in the City Council chamber in City Hall, 2401 Courthouse Drive.
The City Council will hold two public hearings on the budget in April. The first will be Wednesday, April 18, at 6 p.m. at Cox High School, 2425 Shorehaven Drive. The second will be Tuesday, April 24, at 6 p.m. in the City Council chamber. To sign up to speak at the hearings, contact the City Clerk’s Office at (757) 385-4303. Each speaker will have three minutes to present his or her concerns.
The City Council will hold workshops to discuss the budget on each Tuesday in April. The council is scheduled to hold a budget reconciliation workshop on Tuesday, May 1, and is scheduled to vote on the budget on Tuesday, May 8.
