In honor of Virginia Beach Human Rights Week, Dec. 5-10, a coat drive for youth (school age to 24 years) is being held by the Human Rights Commission (HRC). This drive is also in honor of the 63rd anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation of Human Rights Day, Dec. 10.
Virginia Beach citizens are encouraged to take part in this community outreach effort by donating a new or gently used coat; all sizes are needed. Donations will be given to youth associated with the Seton Youth Shelters and StandUp for Kids organizations. Coats can be dropped off Dec. 5-10 at any Virginia Beach Police Precinct or at the Virginia Beach HRC Office.

“With this coat drive, we hope to assist the hundreds of Virginia Beach youth who are homeless or in dire need of assistance,” said Fay Silverman, HRC chairperson. “These are our most vulnerable and innocent citizens in need of our help.”
Virginia Beach citizens are encouraged to familiarize themselves with human rights issues, support human rights advocates, and recognize the good works performed by human rights leaders. Together, we can heighten theawareness of diversity and bridge the gap toward understanding our differences.
