The Minority Business Council of Virginia Beach held its16th annual Conference and Expo on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. In honor of the event, the Council granted the following awards:
Minority-Owned Business of the Year
PlanIT Technology Group, LLC
During the past year, PlanIT has provided information technology consulting services to the City for several projects. Founded in January 2008, PlanIT consistently recruits top level talent and focuses on delivering a personal experience for its customers.
Woman-Owned Business of the Year
REMSA, Inc.
REMSA, Inc was awarded a contract to perform Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) Inspections for the City. REMSA is responsible for performing introductory, compliance and follow-up inspections, each involving different protocols.
Small Business of the Year
Everett Mechanical Corporation
Everett Mechanical Corporation was founded as a Class ‘A’ Contractor in June 2002. Everett was awarded a contract with the City of Virginia Beach to perform upgrades to the HVAC components at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia.
Diversity Champion of the Year
Urban Design Associates (UDA)
Through the development of the City of Virginia Beach’s Strategic Growth Area plans, Urban Design Associates has displayed its dedicated to working with SWaM and DBE-certified firms.
Exceptional Achievement Award
Toni French, ComIT (City of Virginia Beach)
Toni French has consistently been proactive in seeking out minority/woman-owned firms to increase minority and woman-owned participation in city procurements.
