City Employees Collect More than 4,900 Pounds of Food for the Southeastern Virginia Foodbank

Each year, the President and Congress designate the first Monday through Sunday in May as Public Service Recognition Week to honor and thank public workers for their dedication. Celebrated since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week also serves as an opportunity for public employees to showcase the broad array of government services they provide to citizens. This is the third year that City of Virginia Beach employees celebrated the week by giving back to the community.

This year, city employees donated 4,917 pounds of food to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, which will generate 3,782 meals for those in need. “We really needed the food right now,” said Abby Weber, the food and fund drive coordinator for the foodbank.
