Series of Forums on Homelessness Continues on Aug. 31
Monday, August 22, 2011 · 11:30 am
The Virginia Beach Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation is hosting a series of public forums regarding the issue of homelessness in the city. The forums will give service providers and citizens an opportunity to discuss key concerns, share ideas and collectively develop solutions to resolve those concerns. The meetings are not intended to address new sites for the Lighthouse Center or criteria for selecting a suitable site. The first meeting in the series was held Aug. 3.
The second meeting in the series will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Law Enforcement Training Academy, 411 Integrity Way. This meeting will feature a presentation by the Department of Human Services on the issue of substance abuse, as well as a presentation by the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation regarding homeless service models being used by other cities across the country. There will be a question-and-answer session, as well as a discussion about the community process to be used at future meetings.
