Virginia Beach, Va. (April 28, 2014) – The Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is hosting two events during National Travel and Tourism Week in May to celebrate the tourism industry, which is the second largest revenue generator for the City of Virginia Beach. On Monday, May 5th, Governor Terry McAuliffe is the featured keynote speaker during the Virginia Beach CVB’s State of the Tourism Industry luncheon. On Tuesday, May 6th, the CVB will host the 25th Annual National Travel & Tourism Awards breakfast to honor outstanding frontline hospitality professionals who deliver exceptional customer service to visitors every day.
National Travel & Tourism Week is celebrated May 3-11 this year, uniting cities, states and travel businesses across the country to champion the power of travel. Tourism revenue for Virginia Beach reached $1.28 billion in 2012 and generates more than 12,000 jobs. Virginia Beach drives more leisure travel visitation than any other city in Virginia. Tourism spurs growth, builds a strong tax base and creates jobs that cannot be outsourced.
