The Virginia Beach City Council has changed the days on which it holds formal meetings. These are meetings at which the council takes formal action: adopting ordinances and resolutions, and considering rezonings, conditional use permits and other land-use items.
Currently, the City Council holds its formal meetings in the council chamber at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month, except July and December. Starting June 1, the City Council will hold formal meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of every month, except for July and December, when the council meets only on the first and second Tuesdays.
The meeting dates were changed because two City Council members have been appointed to state boards and the meeting dates of those boards conflict with the current City Council schedule.
The City Council will continue to hold informal briefing meetings on the first and third Tuesday afternoons in the council conference room prior to the formal sessions, except for July and December. Workshops will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., except in July and December. The council does not meet whenever there is a fifth Tuesday in the month.
