The Virginia Beach City Council will hold a special formal session on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chamber to interview candidates for two open seats on the council – one in the Rose Hall District, one for an At-Large seat.
The seats are currently occupied by Glenn Davis and Bill DeSteph, who were elected last month to the Virginia House of Delegates and have tendered their resignations from the council. They will assume their new positions in January. The City Council will appoint two residents to take the seats currently held by Davis and DeSteph. Those two City Council seats would then be on the election ballot in November 2014.
Earlier this month, 39 candidates applied for those two seats. On Dec. 10, the City Council narrowed the field to 11 candidates, who will be interviewed on Dec. 17. They are:
- Rose Hall District: Linda M. Bright, Evan Ross Brockwell and Shannon DS Kane.
- At Large: Kristina Pitsilides Chastain, Murray Benjamin Davenport, Dennis E. Free, Brad Martin, Brian K. Matney, Delceno C. Miles, Samuel Gaston Reid and Todd P. Solomon.
After the interviews, the City Council will meet in closed session to discuss the possible appointment of one or two of the candidates. If the council makes an appointment, it will be after the council reconvenes in public session.
The meeting will be televised live on VBTV, and can also be watched live at www.vbgov.com/media/pages/live-videos.aspx.
