Public Hearing to be Held July 27 on Virginia Beach Redistricting

The City of Virginia Beach will hold a public hearing Wednesday, July 27, to hear citizens’ views on the proposed redistricting maps of the City Council/School Board residence districts. The hearing will be at 6 p.m. in the City Council chamber, City Hall, 2401 Courthouse Drive.
Citizens who want to view the latest redistricting proposals, or submit alternative plans, can visit www.vbredistricting.com. The site includes maps and data for several proposed redistricting plans by City Council liaisons and maps proposed by the Virginia Beach branch of the NAACP in concert with the Virginia Beach Concerned Citizens Coalition. The site also includes maps and data for current City Council districts, a way to submit other proposed redistricting maps, a calendar of upcoming events, census figures and presentations to the City Council.
An additional public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in the City Council chamber. The council is tentatively scheduled to approve new districts on Aug. 23.
The redistricting website is maintained by Kimball Brace of Election Data Services Inc., a Manassas firm hired by the city to help with the redistricting process.
