(Virginia Beach, Va., October 9, 2013) – Sports marketing is a key player in helping to drive Virginia Beach’s tourism industry, which is Virginia Beach’s second-largest revenue generator, and positioning the coastal city as a year-round destination. Each year for the past four years, the Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (CVB) Sports Marketing team has generated an average of 101,500+ hotel room night bookings, the majority of which occur between October and May. Already in 2011-2012, visitors arriving for a sports competition accounted for 9.4 percent of Virginia Beach’s visitation in the spring and 6.6 percent in the fall. The Virginia Beach CVB is positioning itself to capture an even larger share.
The Virginia Beach CVB is sponsoring the Virginia Beach Sports Marketing Forum, where local businesses can explore how to manage and grow participatory sports tourism business in Virginia Beach. Guests can join roundtable discussions, Q&A, and a town hall meeting followed by a reception. The media is invited and encouraged to attend.
