Public Works will reopen Laskin Road, Holly Road and Baltic Avenue today, Friday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m., as scheduled, as part of the fourth and final phase of the Laskin Gateway project. Road construction was completed this morning and traffic will be allowed through beginning this afternoon.
There will be some final work by crews on utility relocation between now and the first week of October.
Earlier this year, the City agreed for the Public Art Virginia Beach Foundation to construct a “WAVE” sculpture inside the traffic roundabout. Work will begin on that beginning Monday morning, September 9. Because of safety concerns while it is being constructed, the City will close the traffic roundabout on Sunday, September 8, 2013, beginning at noon so that crews may begin work on the sculpture on Monday.
While the work is being completed, eastbound traffic on Laskin Road will enter the Oceanfront area via 30th Street from Laskin Road. Westbound traffic will exit the Oceanfront area onto Laskin Road via 32nd Street. Detour signs will be in place to inform drivers.
