Due to a significant water main break at Laskin Road, customers located north of 24th Street, east of Birdneck Road, and South of Fort Story should boil water before drinking.
As a precautionary measure, customers are advised to bring the water to a rolling boil for approximately one minute. This will help destroy bacteria that may have contaminated the drinking water. The water can be used after cooling. Keep any unused water in a sealed container.
Hot tap water is not a substitute for boiling water. Water from a water heater is not intended for drinking. Due to bacteria that can form in water heaters, hot tap water should never be used for consumption, including drinking, cooking, and preparing infant formula.
Additionally, if your freezer has an automatic icemaker, discard all the ice cubes and turn off the icemaker until the “boil water” notice is lifted.
Customers may use the water for non-potable purposes such as laundry, toilet flushing and bathing.
Virginia Beach Public Utilities employees are working to restore the water quality as soon as possible.
