(Virginia Beach, Va.) – Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Senior Convention Services Manager Teri Wiley has been awarded the Convention Services Manager of the Year award for her commitment and dedication to the convention industry. Convention Service Managers (CSMs) are vital partners in the meetings process who rarely get their due. They are an extension of the sales teams and advocate for their city.
Successful Meetings magazine joined with the Event Service Professionals Association (ESPA) to choose the Convention Service Manager of the Year in several categories. Wiley was honored this past weekend at a gala luncheon at the ESPA Annual Conference in Orlando in the Convention and Visitors Bureau segment.
After many years on the sales side in hotels, Wiley joined the Virginia Beach CVB in November 2000. She started as the Convention Service Manager and was later promoted to the Senior Convention Service Manager. Wiley also completed the Certified Meeting Professional program, achieving the industry's highest standard of professionalism.
Wiley, along with her staff and dynamic volunteer program, are responsible for coordinating and executing the needs of state and national associations, military, religious, multicultural and fraternal conferences and conventions, professional tradeshows, and amateur sporting events in Virginia Beach. There is much to be done for these events, where attendance can range from 200 to over 5,000 attendees and a length of stay from one day to over a week.
“Wiley’s emphasis on teamwork and customer service is a driving force in the success of the many meetings and conventions held in Virginia Beach,” said CVB Director Jim Ricketts. “I’m honored to have such a great team and to know that they are being recognized among industry leaders.”
