Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is looking for talented home-grown musicians to compete for the headlining musical performance in front of an estimated crowd of 50,000 spectators at this year’s July 4th Celebration taking place at Mount Trashmore Park (310 Edwin Drive).
Applications, including the full list of criteria and rules, are available at www.VBgov.com/specialevents and will be accepted until February 28, 2013. Musicians of all ages are encouraged to apply; there is a $20 non-refundable entry fee, and 75% of any musical band make-up must reside in Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg).
A panel of judges will review all applications and select up to five bands to perform at a live competition on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Mount Trashmore Park. Audiences will have the opportunity to preview the potential winners at this free concert that is open to the public and cast their votes online shortly thereafter.
The winner of the live competition will be determined by the total number of online votes, and then perform as the headlining musical act at the annual July 4th Celebration on Thursday, July 4, 2013. Runner-up will win the opening act slot.
This year’s annual July 4th Celebration at Mount Trashmore Park is Thursday, July 4, 2013 from 4 – 10 pm and includes fun family activities, food concessions and booming fireworks.
