Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation offers a diving league and a water polo league
for youth. These fun leagues promote skill progression and growth in a low-key competitive environment. They are ideal for swimmers who want a different way to challenge their skills. Registration for the leagues is on-going as space allows; each league costs $100.
The diving league, for ages 7-15, emphasizes diver development and safety. Participants must be comfortable swimming in deep water, and able to dive off the diving board. The diving league is available at Bayside Recreation Center, Great Neck Recreation Center, and Princess Anne Recreation Center. Practices are held during weekday evenings March through early May. Dual meets are held Friday evenings in March and April, with the championship meet in May.
The water polo league emphasizes learning the correct technique and rules of water polo to youth age 10 - 17. Participants must be able to swim 50 meters/yards using front crawl, with their head above water and be able to tread water for 5 minutes. The water polo league is available at Bayside Recreation Center, Great Neck Recreation Center, and Princess Anne Recreation Center. Practices are held during weekday evenings mid-March through Mid-May. Water polo matches held Friday evenings in April and May.
To register for either league, simply visit any Virginia Beach Recreation Center. For more information, please contact Karen Connolly at (757) 496-6766 or kconnoll@VBgov.com.
