Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced that a grand jury meeting in Virginia Beach Circuit Court today returned indictments against 130 individuals charging 280 separate offenses. Of those indicted today, approximately 25% were indicted for felony drug crimes.
Roy Ruiz Loredo was indicted for charges of Rape (2 counts), Forcible Sodomy (5 counts), Abduction with the Intent to Defile (2 counts), Robbery, Aggravated Sexual Battery with Force/Threat/Intimidation (2 counts), Statutory Burglary, and Unlawful Wounding during the Commission of a Felony. This is in addition to the charges of Abduction and Attempt Rape for which he was indicted on October 1, 2012. All charges stem from a series of attacks on women in the Bayside area of Virginia Beach on June 24, 2012. Loredo’s next court appearance will be a motions hearing on November 19, 2012 in Circuit Court.
Jermaine Belvin was indicted for Second Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in connection with a shooting on May 19, 2012 in the Birchwood Gardens area of Virginia Beach. He also faces charges of Malicious Wounding and Use of a Firearm and was indicted by a grand jury on August 20, 2012 for those offenses.
The grand jury indicted James Thomas Miller for First Degree Murder in connection with the August 6, 2012 death of Irene Teague on Barberton Drive in Virginia Beach. He is currently scheduled for trial on January 22, 2013 in Circuit Court.
The grand jury also indicted six (6) individuals for felony Driving Under the Influence. Those individuals are:
