Have you or anyone you know ever had their personal information compromised? Have you ever received a check in the mail saying you’ve won money? Have you ever received an E-mail from someone asking you to help them get their money out of a war torn nation? Did you know you can check your credit report for FREE? Do you want to know how? These are several questions that citizens should consider to protect their identity and credit.
For more information on avoiding economic crime victimization through fraud and scams, the Department’s Economic Crime and Crime Prevention units are hosting two free economic crime forums.
When and Where:
Thursday, October 18, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at the Advanced Technology Center Theatre, 1800 College Crescent.
Saturday, October 20, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., in the Marsh Pavilion Theatre at the Virginia Aquarium, 717 General Booth Blvd.
Topics include:
Identity theft, internet fraud, credit card and debit card theft, and telephone scams.
In addition, a special agent from the FBI will be providing information concerning out of country scams, mortgage fraud, and other federal fraud issues. A representative from Retail Alliance will present information concerning the retail crime alert which is a free service to all residents and businesses in Hampton Roads.
