Beginning Sept. 10, Virginia Beach residents are now able to purchase hunting and fishing licenses, as well as submit applications for boat titles and registrations at the Virginia Beach DMV Select, located at the Virginia Beach Commissioner of the Revenue’s office, 2401 Courthouse Drive.
This is the result of a partnership formed between the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) that began last January so Virginians could purchase their hunting and fishing-related products in one trip to either DGIF or DMV.
Previously, boat-owners had to go to DGIF to register their boats and to DMV to register their boat trailers. Hunting and fishing licenses were not available at DMV.
Since these services became available at all full-service DMV customer service centers in January, DMV has processed approximately 8,000 DGIF-related transactions. As of Monday of this week, this service was expanded to include a majority of Virginia’s 57 DMV Select offices.
The participating DMV Select offices will join the 74 local DMV customer service centers, five mobile offices and more than 700 DGIF retailers across the state that already sell hunting and fishing licenses.
“Our focus has always been to consider any idea that helps citizens take care of their business with local government with as little trouble and inconvenience as possible,” said Philip Kellam, Virginia Beach Commissioner of the Revenue. “Our DMV Select office has been a huge success with Virginia Beach citizens, and offering these additional services just makes sense. We’re happy to be able to offer this to our residents, especially now with hunting season just around the corner.”
DMV Selects are run by local governments and private entities that contract with DMV to conduct vehicle-related transactions. Each DMV Select has online access to DMV allowing the partner to update customer records immediately. Customers can conduct many routine motor vehicle-related services at DMV Selects including vehicle decal renewals, vehicle titles and license plate orders. However, DMV Selects do not issue driver's licenses, learner’s permits or identification cards.
