Youth Opportunities Office

Page Content
The Virginia Beach Youth Opportunities Office (YOO) was established in May 1998 through a collaborative effort of the City of Virginia Beach and the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. The mission of the Youth Opportunities Office is to promote positive youth development for all Virginia Beach youth birth to 21 years of age through:

  • Collaboration and Partnerships
  • Education and Training
  • Awareness
  • Youth Civic Engagement
  • Community Involvement and Investment
The Youth Opportunities Office connects citizens to programs and opportunities for young people. The YOO will assist agencies and community groups with developing youth as leaders as they work in partnership with adults. The YOO works closely with the Youth Opportunities Team (YOT), a network of youth-serving agencies and advocates, and with the community to sustain a collaborative approach to creating and expanding opportunities that are meaningful, available and accessible to ALL Virginia Beach youth.

Our goal is to achieve the community’s vision for youth - “All our children are well”. As we strive to achieve positive outcomes for all Virginia Beach youth, we are committed to maintaining an emphasis on those who are most at risk.

Collaboration and Partnerships

Partnerships create synergy! We achieve much more working together than working independently. We may be able to connect you to other organizations or people that are doing the same or similar things as you. Looking for partners? We can help!

Education and Training

Question: What do young people really need to grow up healthy, caring and principled? Answer: 40 Developmental Assets. Are you an ASSET Builder? Find out how you can apply the Principles of Positive Youth Development when interacting with youth.
