The Virginia Beach Community Response Team (VBCERT) program educates citizens about disaster preparedness for hazards that may save lives, impact their areas, and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, VBCERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. After completing training, citizens become members of an essential disaster response team.
A key to successful emergency preparedness is to not only prepare your family for an emergency but to organize a meeting with your neighbors to discuss how you can respond effectively to the needs of the neighborhood during a time of crisis. Take the initiative and start preparing your neighborhood today.
