Why is Energy Conservation Important?
The non-renewable energy resources on Earth are finite. Therefore, it is imperative that we conserve our existing supply and use alternative sources wherever possible, so that our natural resources will be available for the generations to come.
Energy Conservation is also important because the use of non-renewable resources impacts the environment. Specifically, the use of fossil fuels contributes to impaired air and water quality. Other environmental impacts include rising sea level and global warming, which could significantly alter our climate, as well as lead to major changes in vegetation growth patterns that could cause some species to become extinct. Reduction of non-renewable energy consumption not only alleviates the environmental impact, but provides significant paybacks in terms of reduced energy costs.
Energy Conservation Programs
