Parking Strategy

Draft Resort Parking Strategy Now Available

The first draft of the Resort Parking Strategy was presented to the Transportation, Parking & Pedestrian Committee (TPPC) of the Resort Advisory Commission (RAC) and Virginia Beach Vision October 27 and 28, 2011. (See October presentation of Resort Parking Strategy.)

Briefings were presented to the Planning Commission on November 14, 2011; and, to the City Council on November 15, 2011. (See November 15, presentation to City Council.)

Background

Over the past several months, the City has been working with RAC TPPC and VB Vision to develop a Resort Parking Strategy. This is an essential component intended to work hand-in-hand with the draft Oceanfront Resort District Form-Based Code.

The goals of the Resort Parking Strategy were approved by RAC TPPC June 30, 2011. Since that time, staff has completed a four step process to compose the Resort Parking Strategy:

Inventory Existing Parking and Usage
Project Future Parking Needs
Identify Parking Districts
Identify Parking Management Structure Options
