Resort Area Master Plan outlines the Central Beach Corridor as a major artery for redevelopment and transportation improvements.
Right Now
Initial start-up funding is allocated to complete studies, create design work, acquire property and make infrastructure improvements to the 19th Street/Central Beach Corridor. Currently the design portion of the project is on hold pending the completion of the Hampton Roads Transit (HRT)/Transit Extension study. The City has acquired key property along 19th Street corridor at the former Cuffee Apartment location.
Future Plan
On the former Dome Site, the 19th Street corridor will feature an entertainment megaplex. Adjacent to the Virginia Beach Convention Center, a new headquarter hotel is planned and will contribute to the convention center's meeting space. Additional parking, public spaces, sidewalks, storm water upgrades and public utility enhancements are included in the plan.
