New Hours of Operation
The Virginia Beach Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be closed on Mondays beginning Monday, March 19, 2012. It will continue to operate Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
“Going from six days per week to five days per week still provides residents of Virginia Beach substantial access to landfill disposal,” said John C. Barnes, Waste Management Administrator. “It allows us to consolidate staff and reduce our costs of the landfill while continuing to exceed regulatory requirements.”
The City Landfill is a municipal solid waste facility that is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The landfill allows disposal of residential waste, including a household hazardous waste and metals recycling facility, along with yard waste and recycling drop off.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the Virginia Beach Landfill, formerly operated by SPSA, is now operated by the City of Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach residents may bring the products listed below to the facility to be disposed of safely and free of charge.
Household hazardous waste must be generated in the City of Virginia Beach from the primary residence and delivered in a privately owned non-commercial automobile, station wagon, passenger or minivan, unmodified low-sided pickup truck, or a trailer that is no larger than a pickup truck bed. Proof of Virginia Beach residency must be provided.
Disposal is limited to five gallons of liquid or 75 pounds of solid waste per visit.
