"How I use water wisely in and around my home"
Show us what you do to conserve water, keep drainage pipes clean, or prevent backflow.
Who May Enter
All students of Virginia Beach elementary schools, grades K through 5 only. Proof of age, school registration, and/or home address may be required.
Instructions
Contest entries will be received through February 28, 2013. All entries must be postmarked by February 28, 2013 to be eligible. Entries must be created with marking pens, colored pencils, acrylic or poster paints, watercolors, crayons or magic markers. All words must be printed neatly in large dark print.
Pictures must be submitted on 8 ½" x 11" white poster board or paper. Only original artwork will be accepted. All pictures must be drawn horizontally. Entries must be mailed or brought to Public Utilities during normal working hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.). Public schools may use interoffice mail. No entries will be accepted without a completed entry form.
Only one entry per student. Only one artist per entry. All entries need a separate entry form. Incomplete entry forms, or submissions without entry forms, will not be accepted. Public Utilities is not responsible for lost, stolen, illegible, or misdirected entries.
Entries cannot be returned; all entries become the property of Public Utilities and may be used in other promotions without further permission or compensation to the artists.
Judging criteria include, but are not limited to: Best expression of theme, picture design, creativity, and artistic skill. Winners will be notified by mail. The artwork of thirteen winners and many honorable mentions will be selected for display in the Water Awareness Calendar. The Mayor of Virginia Beach will present each winner with a $50 savings bond at an official awards program. The winners and honorable mentions will receive a signed certificate and "Wayne Drop" plush toy (see back cover of the calendar).

The Beacon will feature a photograph of the contest winners. Winners may also be featured on VBTV and in other publications.
By entering the contest, entrants accept and agree to the above rules and the decision of the judges, which will be final.
