Deputy Chief Tony Zucaro commands the Operations Division. He began his career with the Virginia Beach Police Department in May 1979. He is a native of the Long Island, New York area. He is married with two adult children and a granddaughter.
Deputy Chief Zucaro has served in a variety of assignments during his department tenure including: Precinct Uniform Patrol, the Detective Bureau and Special Operations. While assigned as an investigator, he managed a variety of cases including numerous high profile violent crime investigations and a long term store front undercover sting operation. While serving as supervisor he has developed several programs, training videos and been responsible for a multitude of department initiatives. He has been recognized for his efforts by several different organizations resulting in over 120 Letters of Commendation or Appreciation. In 1998, he was awarded the Top Cop Award as Police Officer of the Year.
Deputy Chief Zucaro holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University and a Master of Public Administration from Troy University. He is also a graduate of the Administrative Officer’s Management Program at North Carolina State University, the West Point Leadership Course - Charter Session, Professional Executive Leadership School at University of Richmond, Senior Management Institute for Police, and several other leadership instructions. He remains active in the community by volunteering in an assortment of functions.
