On December 21, 1996 the body of a newborn was discovered hidden in a plastic bag hanging on a hook in a bathroom of the Lillian Vernon Mail Order Warehouse located in the 2600 block of International Parkway. The bathroom is accessible by employees of the warehouse only and secluded from the general public. A bomb threat had been reported in the warehouse about an hour prior to the grim discovery. The newborn had been wrapped in a red “Colours” small sized golf shirt with the left breast embroidered with “Sport, Athletic, Champion.”
The body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The baby was a female with dark hair had probably been dead 3 to 5 days. Due to the decomposition, race has not been determined. The identity is still unknown.
