On October 27, 1989 shortly after 7:00 a.m., Audrey Stoll, a Kellam High School crossing guard was struck and killed by a motorist while on duty. She was the department's first civilian employee to be killed on duty.
Mrs. Stoll was 58 at the time of her death. She joined the department in 1985. She proudly served the community for a third of her life and died in the service of it. Mrs. Stoll is survived by two daughters, two sons, and a sister.
