Land Disturbing Permit
A "land disturbing activity" is defined in the Virginia Erosion Control Manual as "any land change which may result in soil erosion from water or wind and the movement of sediment into State waters or onto lands in the Commonwealth, including, but not limited to, clearing, grading, excavating, transporting and filling of land. Any time you intend to disturb any area of land greater than 2500 square feet in size, within the City of Virginia Beach, other than for gardening or agricultural, you need to apply for a permit.
The permit must be posted and placed so that it is visible from the street. These permits may be obtained from the
Development Services Center located in Building 2, Operations at the Municipal Center. The phone number is (757) 385-8277.
Land Disturbing Permit Cost:
The amount of the bonds are determined depending on the actual site conditions and the activities requested.
Logging Permit Information:
A Certificate of Insurance and a minimum $500.00 bond must be posted by the logging contractor. The contractor is required to have general liability insurance with a minimum $500,000 coverage. The Certificate of Insurance must be posted at the time the permit is issued.

Logging Permit Inspection:
Review time is two working days. The
Virginia Department of Forestry requires at least a twenty-four hour notice prior to any logging activity take place. The VDOF can be reached by calling (804) 465-6840.
