How are gas inspections scheduled?
Scheduling Building, Electrical, Gas, Mechanical, Plumbing Inspections:
These inspections are scheduled through our automated telephone inspection scheduling system, a computerized system that allows contractors and homeowners to schedule inspections, cancel inspections, obtain inspection results, and obtain residential release information by using a touch tone phone. (The automated telephone inspection scheduling system cannot be accessed by rotary phones.) This system is available 24 hours day, 7 days a week.
Inspections may be scheduled up to 5 working days in advance of the desired inspection date. However, inspections must be scheduled PRIOR to 8:00 am the day the inspection is desired. All calls after 8:00 am will not be available for a same day inspection. It is recommended to call no later than 7:45 am the day the inspection is desired to assure the information will be recorded in time.
After an inspection has been scheduled using the automated telephone inspection scheduling system, inspectors may be contacted between 8:00 am - 9:00 am the day of the inspection to discuss an approximate time or relay information regarding the inspection. The inspectors arrange their daily work schedules, and do not know what inspections have been requested prior to the inspection date.
To access the automated telephone inspection scheduling system call (757) 385-4YOU(4968).
When is Va. Natural Gas notified of a Gas Release?
Upon inspection of the gas line, the inspector approves a release if it is in order. If the inspector approves a release after the pressure test inspection, the release will be generated at that time; otherwise, the release will be generated after the final inspection of the gas line. Once the release has been sent, Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) can be contacted to determine when connection of gas service will be scheduled.
