The
Virginia Beach Historic Preservation Commission promotes an active network of
historic home owners. Many of the historic property owners have been generous
to open their homes for public tours to help benefit historic preservation in
Virginia Beach.
The
Historic Preservation Commission initiated the Holiday Historic Homes Tour in
December 2009 to increase public awareness about the many architectural
treasures that exist in many parts of the City.
These historic homes range from early colonial houses from the first
quarter of the 18th century to modern post-World War II
architecture. The 2009 tour showcased homes in the Bayside area. The 2010 tour opened homes in the Great Neck
area. The 2011 tour featured homes in
the Oceanfront’s north end.
The
2012 tour will present homes in the Courthouse area and in the Oceana
area. It will include the Kellam House,
the Whitehurst Buffington House, the Bell House and Upper Wolfsnare. Also included will be Nimmo United Methodist
Church. Tickets are $25 and will be
available around the 1st of October.
The brochure will be posted around that date.
