Voters Say Yes to Light Rail Referendum
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, 62.7% of Virginia Beach voters voted yes on an advisory referendum that asked:
"Should the City Council adopt an ordinance approving the use of all reasonable efforts to support the financing and development of The Tide light rail into Virginia Beach?"
Because the Referendum Passed:
A detailed study will continue and the City Council will decide whether to approve construction and where the line should run. Construction will still depend on federal approval and funding.
The result of the referendum is not legally binding on the City Council.
