Meet Your Coaches:
Lucian Waltz has been around water ever since he can remember. He has been a competitive swimmer starting at the age of four with summer league teams until high school where he became known as Salem’s distance swimmer. At the age of fifteen, he started his aquatics background working as a lifeguard. Lucian has been employed with the City of Virginia Beach for three years as a lifeguard, swim instructor and coach. He really looks forward to this swim season and can’t wait to pass all the knowledge he has learned on to the next generation of swimmers.
Jarrid Lopez has been swimming since he was a year old and started competing at age 11, swimming in summer league for the Man-O-Wars. He swam all four years in high school, one year for the Tri City Aquatic Club (TCAC) and practiced with the ODU swim club. Because of his love for working with kids and his passion for swimming, Jarrid is looking forward to his first season as a swim coach and sharing what he has learned over the years as a swimmer to all the young future athletes.
Michelle has been in and around water most of her life. She started competitive swimming at the age of 6. She swam competitively in middle school and in high school and continues to swim for personal fitness and competes in triathlons. Michelle has worked for Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation since 1996. This is her eleventh season as a swim league supervisor. In addition to swimming and triathlons, she also enjoys reading, yoga, hiking, kayaking, gardening and spending time with her boyfriend and four grown children. Her advice for swim league participants is not about the rac,e but the lessons we can learn from it. A last-place finish can often teach us more life lessons than a first.
