Therapeutic Recreation Programs employ full-time CTRS’s (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists) and part-time paraprofessionals to implement programs and services. CTRS’s are professionals credentialed through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
. Part-time staff are paraprofessionals who assist participants during program activities, provide behavioral support and redirection, and assist supervisor with implementation of activities.

, Aquatics / Therapeutic Recreation City-Wide Coordinator: 30-year City employee overseeing operation of six year-round aquatic facilities; past 5 years also with the TR Team supporting services for participants with special needs; enjoys surf fishing, scuba and any sunny day on the beach.
, CTRS, Recreation Supervisor: Graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation and Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation; enjoys watching Norfolk Admirals hockey, spending time with family and friends, being outdoors and working in our programs.
, CTRS, Recreation Specialist II: Graduate of Longwood College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Therapeutic Recreation; employed with Therapeutic Recreation Programs since fall of 1998; enjoys spending his leisure time coaching and watching his kids play baseball and softball.
, CTRS, Recreation Specialist I: Attended Virginia Wesleyan College, Radford University and Troy University and holds an undergraduate degree in Recreation & Leisure Services with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation and a graduate degree in Public Administration; enjoys swimming at the pool or beach, spending time with family and friends, traveling, warm cups of coffee, going to the movies and meeting new people!
