Therapeutic Recreation Programs employ full-time CTRS’s (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists) and part-time paraprofessionals to implement programs and services. CTRS’s are professionals credentialed through the
National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Part-time staff are paraprofessionals who assist participants during program activities, provide behavioral support and redirection, and assist supervisor with implementation of activities.
Meet Our Full-Time Staff:
Teri Dalone, Aquatics / Therapeutic Recreation City-Wide Coordinator: 30-year City employee overseeing operation of six year-round aquatic facilities; past 5 years also with the TR Team supporting services for participants with special needs; enjoys surf fishing, scuba and any sunny day on the beach.
Kathy Williams, CTRS, Recreation Supervisor: Graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation and Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation; enjoys watching Norfolk Admirals hockey, spending time with family and friends, being outdoors and working in our programs.
Bill Parker, CTRS, Recreation Specialist II: Graduate of Longwood College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Therapeutic Recreation; employed with Therapeutic Recreation Programs since fall of 1998; enjoys spending his leisure time coaching and watching his kids play baseball and softball.
Carolyn Stark, CTRS, Recreation Specialist I: Attended Virginia Wesleyan College, Radford University and Troy University and holds an undergraduate degree in Recreation & Leisure Services with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation and a graduate degree in Public Administration; enjoys swimming at the pool or beach, spending time with family and friends, traveling, warm cups of coffee, going to the movies and meeting new people!
Jessica Rhea, CTRS, Recreation Specialist I: Graduate of Radford University with a Bachelors of Science in Recreation, Parks and Tourism with concentrations in Therapeutic Recreation and Outdoor Recreation; enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, running, traveling, playing softball and ANYTHING outdoors.
Karen Morgan-Hill, CTRS, Recreation Specialist I: Graduate of Old Dominion University with a Bachelors of Science in Recreation and Tourism Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation; loyal ODU Monarch Football and Basketball fan; enjoys the beach, loves coffee and spending time with family and her golden retriever, Blue.
