Therapeutic Recreation Programs offer a variety of programs which allow participants of all ages and abilities to enhance social skills and develop lifetime leisure interests. For current program offerings please check the

Around Town
(Age 14 & up) This program provides the opportunity to participate in leisure activities in the recreation center and the community. Participants will select community outings, participate in various activities, work on money handling skills, and socialize with friends. All participants will be responsible for any admission fees on trips and for managing their own belongings (personal items, money, etc.). Note: meeting time may change on outing nights; there are a limited number of spaces for those who use wheelchairs.
Target Population(s): serving individuals with mild to moderate levels of intellectual disability, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, visual and hearing impairments.
Staff to Participant Ratio: 1:4 to 1:6
Skills Needed: with or without minimal staff assistance is able to: complete two-step directions; make choices; manage personal belongings and have the desire to participate.

*Special Event* For the Love of Food!
(Age 14 & up) Come join us for a night of fun, food and friendship. We will be learning basic kitchen safety, simple cooking skills and dining etiquette. Prepare and sample the foods we make and learn a few easy recipes to share with your family. Registration includes staff instruction, food supplies, and recipe cards. Those who require 1:1 assistance are welcome to register, but need to provide their own assistant. If the participant is new to our programs, a parent, caregiver, mature sibling or support staff must accompany them.
Target Population(s): serving individuals with mild to moderate intellectual disability, learning disabilities, moderate Autism, moderate behavioral/emotional disorders, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, visual or hearing impairments, or physical disabilities.
Just Wanna Dance
(Age 14 & up) Dancing With The Stars… move on over!! Who’s ready for some REAL dance moves? How about the twist, line dancing, ballroom or pop? Join us for an exciting class with a grand finale dance performance.
Target Population(s): moderate & mild levels of intellectual disability learning disabilities, mild to high functioning levels of Autism, moderate behavioral/emotional disorders, ADD/ADHD, visual impairments or hearing impairments.
Staff to Participant Ratio: 1:3
Skills Needed: Follows one to two step directions, manage own behavior with moderate to minimal staff intervention and ability to make simple choices. Participants must have a desire to participate in sessions.
Outdoor Challenge Series
(Age 12 – 35) This program is designed to explore the outdoors. Participants will experience a variety of outdoor recreational and stewardship activities. Activities may include kayaking, fishing and hiking. Through the challenges of each activity, participants can increase self-esteem and confidence, gain social skills, and learn coping strategies for various facets of life.
Target Population(s): individuals with Aspergers’ syndrome, moderate behavioral/emotional disorders, ADD/ADHD, or self-esteem difficulties
Staff to Participant Ratio: 1:3
Skills Needed: Follows two step directions, manage own behavior with moderate to minimal staff intervention and ability to make simple choices. Participants must have a desire to participate in sessions.
*Special Event* Sense-Sational Gardening
(Age 14 & up) Roll up your sleeves and join us for an afternoon of gardening fun. We will be planting an Italian herb garden great for seasoning any Italian dish. Smell, touch, and even taste the different traditional Italian herbs for your own garden. We will also decorate a beautiful container, perfect to brighten up any kitchen window sill. Registration includes staff instruction, plants, container and a recipe card. Those who require 1:1 assistance are welcome to register, but need to provide their own assistant. If the participant is new to our programs, a parent, caregiver, mature sibling or support staff must accompany them.
Target Population(s): profound, severe, moderate & mild levels of intellectual disability, learning disabilities, low to high functioning levels of Autism, moderate behavioral/emotional disorders, ADD/ADHD, traumatic brain injuries, visual, hearing or physical impairments.
Tumble, Jump and Roll!
(Age 4 – 8) Come and play! A program designed for children with a lot of energy to burn! Children will experience a variety of exciting activities and equipment including trampolines, balls, mats, music and more!
Target Population(s): moderate & mild levels of intellectual disability, learning disabilities, mild to high functioning levels of Autism, and PDD with a high energy level.
Staff to Participant Ratio: 1:2
Skills Needed: Follows one step directions and must be ambulatory.
