
Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer scouts and volunteers a variety of projects to complete. Unfortunately, we cannot offer the funding that goes along with these projects and we look to the scouts and volunteers to complete fundraising efforts or ask for donations.

Bayville Farms Park
- Complete installation of new fencing along First Court Road
- Drainage improvements around sidewalk areas
- Widen existing foot bridge to accommodate cart
FoxFire Neighborhood Park
- Clear trail on old rail bed over to West Neck Creek
Great Neck Park
- Create a nature trail through the wooded area in the rear of the park - ON HOLD
- Split rail fencing needed in several areas
Lynnhaven Boat & Beach Facility
- Construct (3) 4' x 20" planters using recycled plastic materials (TREX). Construction plans provided
Little Island Park
- Beach access-lining with split rail fencing (around #2 restroom facility)
- Dune grass plantings (spring and fall) Plants provided by Dept. of Agriculture
- Palm tree and Fountain grass plantings
- Install sand fencing in various locations
- Install split rail fencing along beach access ways to replace damaged fence
Mount Trashmore Park
- Clean up around Lake Windsor
- Renovate a flower bed near cherry trees with landscape border and flagstone pathway
- Remove mulch from median beds in Edwin Drive parking lot and replace with Liriope ground cover
- Freshwater wetland plantings (April-October)
Munden Point Park
- Create nature trail through the wooded area of the park
- Improve the areas surrounding shelters 1 and 3 at the edge of the concrete where the water drips from the shelter roof by installing French drains
- Improve the drainage near the canoe/kayak launch area by digging a swale out to the river so the affected area will drain off and make the sidewalk accessible
- Renovate horseshoe pits by the ball fields
- Replace top surface boards on bulkhead on either side of the boat ramp access
Ocean Lakes Community Park (in coordination with Virginia Beach Little League)
- Parking lot improvements (to include bumpers or barriers to street and fencing)
- Correct a drainage problem around small shelter near playground and near ball field in front of park
Owl Creek Tennis Center
- Drainage improvement project along sidewalk around center court
Red Mill Farms Park
- Correct a drainage problem in the parking lot
Red Wing Metro Park
- Complete trail work throughout the park
Stumpy Lake Natural Area
- Trail maintenance to include adding piping for drainage in certain areas and low footbridges over wet areas
West Neck Creek Natural Area
- Soft trail maintenance to include mulching, repairing wet areas, pruning, etc.
Woodstock Park
- Create a raised flower bed (plant Azaleas) around three oak trees near the playground to prevent water runoff
- Create a small raised flower bed next to women's restroom, remove old plants and plant Liriope
- Remove concrete parking blocks from two medians and replace with landscaping block
- Construct purple martin house(s)
Amenities for any Park
- Construct planters using recycled plastic materials
- Additional fencing in areas of need
- Tree plantings (Spring/Fall)
- Construct butterfly gardens in larger metro parks
- Concrete pads for trash receptacles
- Build/construct sets of corn hole games for use in parks. Scouts must come up with standards and provide all needed materials.
