Participants must currently be receiving free or reduced lunch with Virginia Beach Public Schools or currently receive a Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation reduced fee waiver. A copy of the FARL letter must be provided at the time of registration.

Nature Detectives
Age 3 - 6 | Use investigative skills and tools to explore the world around you. Discover the differences in animal body coverings, identify insects, and learn how trees each have unique leaves. This camp includes outdoor activities, nature crafts and animal encounters.

Preschool and Kindergarten Camp
If you want your preschooler/kindergartner to experience a summer they will always remember, let them come and enjoy a week with us! Aside from the wonderful amenities our recreation centers offer, your child’s day will be filled with fun and interactive
activities and field trips. This program is designed to provide a fun, safe, and stimulating learning environment through a different theme each week. Snacks will be provided. No camp Jul 4. $30 deposit / balance due per week

Kempsville and Princess Anne Recreation Centers

Youth | Rising 1st - 6th grader

Rec Center Camp Add-On Options: OST​ Summer Camp Swim Lessons
Enhance your child's summer camp experience by including a week of swimming lessons. Class groups will be designed to improve your child's swimming proficiency and knowledge of water safety. Classes are held five mornings per week for 45 minutes. Participants must be enrolled in a Recreation Center Summer Camp during the week they register for the Add-On Option. | $30

Teen | Rising 7th - 9th grader

Spend the summer with us at one of our six recreation centers. Your day will be filled with fun and interactive activities including swimming, adventurous field trips, creative arts and crafts projects, cooking and high-energy games. No camp July 4. $30 deposit/ $110 balance due per week

Specialty Ca​mps

Back to Nature Camp

Rising 1st - 6th graders | Campers will go kayaking, fishing and hiking, learn archery and do lots of exploring in local parks and waterways. This camp focuses on spending time outdoors in our community, allows children to gain confidence in being outside, and exposes them to the wonders of nature. Participants learn the basics of outdoor recreation, the importance of environmental stewardship, and gain hands on knowledge of our local environment.

Magic Camp & More

It's back! Campers will learn amazing magic tricks they can perform for family and friends, and build self-confidence in a full, supportive environment. Each child receives a magic case to decorate and fill with tricks they learn in camp. On Friday we host a big magic show where the campers perform magic for family and friends. No prior experience required; new magic tricks will be taught so prior campers will enjoy this year’s camp too. Bring a lunch Monday through Thursday.
Instructor: Award-winning, professional magician Rob Westcott
Rising 1st - 4th graders | This camp will provide three hours of magic instruction in the morning, followed with some fun recreational activities! Enjoy the recreation center game room, swimming, and fun-filled field trips. 
Kempsville | M-F | July 9 - 13 | 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. | $199 
 
Rising 4th - 8th graders | Campers will be provided with all the training materials and magic props necessary to do the tricks.

Ropes Camp​

Age 11 - 15 | Challenge yourself this summer with healthy risks such as climbing elements as high as 50 feet, while on belay! This course will provide you with fun opportunities to enhance communication skills. All campers must work together to accomplish the tasks and act as safety systems for one another. As campers meet the challenges, their confidence shines through.

Thrills & Chills Camp​

Rising 8th & 9th graders | From the thrill of some of Virginia’s most exciting and exhilarating roller coasters, to the chill of enjoying a fun in the sun day at one of our water parks, and a few things in between...the Thrills & Chills Camp is for you!

Skateboard Camp for Beginners​​

Rising 1st - 7th graders | Learn to ride street, ramp and bowl. Skaters will also learn stretching exercises and drills to help perform advance moves.

British Soccer Camp​

Grades 1 - 8 | Receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts. Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, scrimmages, and a daily tournament. Equally important, the coaches provide your child with lessons in self-discipline, sportsmanship, and respect for others and the game. Each camper will receive a British soccer ball, camp shirt, and a personal-skills evaluation. Register online at  www.challengersports.com​

Surf Camp & More​

Rising 5th - 8th graders | Experience surfing under the direction of American Red Cross certified P&R Surf Instructors at Little Island Park and Croatan Beach. Children will learn to paddle, catch waves, stand up, surf, and learn about shaping boards as well as safe surfing practices. Surf boards are provided. Afternoons will be filled with other water-related activities such as kayaking, fishing, water parks, and education by the Virginia Aquarium staff. Waves are not guaranteed and we do not surf when red flags are posted. A daily activity schedule and a listing of what to bring each day will be distributed at the prerequisite swim. Participants are required to complete a swimming prerequisite a week prior to the camp. Please call the Aquatic Unit at the recreation center closest to you to schedule. The swim requirement is: 50 meter crawl stroke with breathing, 10 minutes treading water, underwater swim 20 feet with one breath, and retrieve an object from 9 feet of water.

Indoor Tennis Camp​

Age 5 -7 | Beat the heat! The majority of this camp will be taught inside our climate controlled bubble. Students will enjoy a great week of tennis, learning fundamentals for all strokes. This is a great introduction to the game of tennis. Note: Some camp drills will be conducted outside to make use of additional courts.
 
Camps are held weekly (Monday - Friday) from 1 - 4 p.m. at Owl Creek Tennis Center. No camp July 4.
$175; $140 July 2 -6
 

Owl Creek Summer Tennis Camps

Age 5 -17 | Enjoy an entire week of tennis and fun, Beginning players will learn the basics in a fun, exciting atmosphere. More experienced participants will be exposed to advance drills and playing situations. Players will be grouped according to level.
 
Cam​ps are held weekly (Monday - Friday) from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Bayville Farms Park, Kempsville Recreation Center, Lynnhaven Middle School and Owl Creek Tennis Center.
No camp July 4. | $140; $112 July 2 - 6

In-person at any Virginia Beach Community Recreation Center​

2. Complete the registration forms in the Parent Handbook and return to any of the six Virginia Beach Community Recreation Centers by mail or in-person. Reservations must be made online or in-person prior to submitting forms. To guarantee participation on the first day of camp forms must be submitted by:
April 27 | Recreation Center and Specialty Summer Camps

May 25 | School Based Summer Camp

If completed forms are submitted after these dates, our staff will confirm the first day your child may start participating in our program. Please note that it may take up to 30 days after all registration and accommodation forms are returned to us to implement an accommodation plan.

Payment Information

  • A non-refundable and non-transferrable deposit is due for each week of camp. Deposits may not be applied to other Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation programs, services, or account balances. 
  • A $30 weekly deposit is required at the time of reservation for Recreation Center Summer Camps.
  • Specialty camps require full payment at registration.
  • A $10 weekly deposit is required at the time of reservation for School Based Summer Camps.
  • The balance is due two weeks prior to the week that the participant will attend.

  • Payment is due to maintain positions in camp, whether the camper attends or not. 
  • Payments received after the due date will be assessed a $25 administrative processing fee. 
  • Payments are not prorated due to illness, inclement weather, vacation, disciplinary actions, etc. 
  • Failure to comply may forfeit the camper’s place in the camp. ​​​​​​​​​​​​
