School-Base​d Summer Camps

Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation offers summer camps at many Virginia Beach elementary schools and select middle schools. Kids learn games and sports, meet friends, and enjoy field trips. These boredom-buster camps are conveniently located at a nearby school. 

KidzQuest
Rising 1st - 5th graders
June 17 - August 9 | 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.

RISE
Rising 1st - 5th graders
June 17 - August 16 | 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Participants must currently be receiving free or reduced lunch with Virginia Beach City Public Schools or currently receive a Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation reduced fee waiver. A copy of the FARL letter must be provided at the time of registration. Online registration not available for RISE camps.
$50 deposit due at reservation | $150 balance due May 24

Recreation Center Camps

Virginia Beach Recreation Centers are an ideal place for kids to attend summer camp. Campers experience the same activities as those attending our school-based camps, with the bonus of cooling off in the swimming pools, learning simple cooking skills, and playing with a wider variety of athletic equipment. *Valid membership​ is required for all recreation center camps

Preschool & Kindergarten Camp
If you want your preschooler/kindergartner to experience a summer they will always remember, let them come and enjoy a week with us! This full-day licensed pre-school program is designed to provide a fun, safe and stimulating learning environment. Snacks will be provided. No camp Jul 4. Online registration ended May 3. Aside from the wonderful amenities our recreation centers offer, your child's day will be filled with fun and age-appropriate activities including swimming, adventurous field trips, creative arts and crafts projects, cooking and high-energy games. No camp July 4.

Experience a summer you’ll never forget! Your day will be filled with fun activities including swimming, adventurous field trips, creative arts and crafts projects, cooking, high-energy games, and exciting surprises. No camp July 4.

Add-on Swim Lessons

Make your child's summer camp experience extra special — include a series of swimming lessons. All abilities of swimmers welcome! Class groups will be designed to improve your child's swimming proficiency and knowledge of water safety. All participants must be enrolled in a Recreation Center Summer Camp during the week they register for the Add-On Option. A current recreation center membership is required.

Specialty Ca​mps

If your kids want to improve a skill or learn something new, our unique specialty camps are the way to go. They encourage your child to explore aspects of different sports or skills … all in a fun, low-key environment. After all, it is all about fun! 

Back to Nature Camp

Grade 1 - 6 | Research has shown that being in nature has a positive impact on the mental and physical health of our children. We’ll spend time outdoors in our community, gaining confidence in being outside and exploring the wonders of nature. Learn the basics of outdoor recreation, the importance of environmental stewardship and gain hands-on knowledge of our local environment.

Nature Detectives

Age 3 - 6 | Discover the differences in animal body coverings, identify insects and learn how trees each have unique leaves. Campers will use their investigative skills (and some of our tools!) to explore the world around them. Camp includes outdoor activities, nature crafts and animal encounters.​

Magic & More

Grade 1 - 5 | Magic Camp is Back! Your child can do magic! Campers learn amazing magic tricks they can perform for family and friends. Award-winning professional magician Rob Westcott personally teaches this class, which includes three hours of magic instruction followed by fun recreational activities, for children entering grades 1 - 5. Children learn skills and build self-confidence in a fun, supportive environment. Each child receives a magic case to decorate and fill with tricks they learn throughout the week. On Friday, we host a big magic show where the children perform magic for family and friends! No prior experience required. Great new magic tricks will be taught so prior attendees will enjoy attending again.

Ropes Camp​

Grades 7 - 9 | Challenge yourself this summer! Experience healthy risk taking by climbing as high as 50 feet, while on belay! This course provides fun opportunities to enhance communication skills. Work together to accomplish the tasks and act as safety systems for one another. Your confidence will shine through as you meet each challenge.

British Soccer Camp​

Grades 1 - 8 | Receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts. Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, scrimmages, and a daily tournament. Equally important, the coaches provide your child with lessons in self-discipline, sportsmanship, and respect for others and the game. Campers receive a British soccer ball, camp shirt, and a personal-skills evaluation. Register online at  www.challengersports.com​

Surf Camp & More​

Grades 5 - 8 | Experience surfing under the direction of American Red Cross certified P&R Surf Instructors at Little Island Park and Croatan Beach. Learn to paddle, catch waves, stand up, surf, and learn about shaping boards as well as safe surfing practices. Surf boards are provided. Afternoons will be filled with other water-related activities such as kayaking, fishing, water parks, and education by the Virginia Aquarium staff. Waves are not guaranteed and we do not surf when red flags are posted. A daily activity schedule and a listing of what to bring each day will be distributed at the prerequisite swim. Participants are required to complete a swimming prerequisite a week prior to the camp. Please call the Aquatic Unit at the recreation center closest to you to schedule. The swim requirement is: 50 meter crawl stroke with breathing, 10 minutes treading water, underwater swim 20 feet with one breath, and retrieve an object from 9 feet of water.

Indoor Tennis Camp​

Age 5 -18 | Beat the heat! Enjoy a great week of tennis learning fundamentals for all strokes within our climate-controlled bubble. This is a great introduction to the game of tennis. Note: Some camp drills will be conducted outside to make use of additional courts. No camp July 4.

Owl Creek Summer Tennis Camps 

Age 5 -18 | Learn the basics of tennis in a fun, exciting atmosphere. More experienced participants will be exposed to more advance drills and playing situations. Players will be grouped according to level. No camp July 4

Registration and Payments​

Make a Reservation

1. Reservations are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Register online with EZreg​* or in person at any Virginia Beach Community Recreation Center​. *Online reservations for Recreation Center and School-Based Summer Camps ended May 3. Please register in person for these camps.

 

2. Your child is considered to be registered in the program only after all registration forms are completed and returned to any of the six Virginia Beach Community Recreation Centers by mail or in-person.​ These forms are in the Parent Handbook (starting on page 29). Forms are also available at the recreation centers.

3. In order to guarantee participation on the first day of summer camp, forms must be submitted at registration. For those who register after those dates, we will process your registration only after all forms have been submitted. Our staff will confirm the first day the camper may attend.

*Please note that it may take up to 30 days after all registration and accommodation forms are returned to us to implement an accommodation plan.

Payment Information

  • Payments can be made at any recreation center, online or via touchtone phone with the barcode and family PIN, by autopay or by mail.
  • A non-refundable and non-transferrable deposit is due for each week of camp. Deposits may not be applied to other Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation programs, services, or account balances. 
  • A $30 weekly deposit is required at the time of reservation for Recreation Center Summer Camps.
  • Specialty camps require full payment at registration.
  • A $10 weekly deposit is required at the time of reservation for School-Based Summer Camps.
  • The balance is due every Friday, 10 days prior to the week or session that the participant(s) will attend.

  • Payment is due to maintain positions in camp, whether the camper attends or not. 
  • If payment is not received on or before the scheduled dates, your child will be withdrawn from the program. Should this occur and you would like for your child to continue participation in the program, you must re-register your child (if space allows) and pay the reinstatement fee and remaining balance on the account.
  • Payments are not prorated due to illness, inclement weather, vacation, disciplinary actions, etc. 
  • Failure to comply may forfeit the camper’s place in the camp. ​​​​​​​​​​​​
