Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation has a 47-year track record for providing safe, structured environments where children are surrounded and supported by adults who care about them. We offer after school programs in many elementary schools and in all six recreation centers.
Recreation activities for kids are proving essential for reaching important social, emotional and cognitive developmental milestones, and enable children to better manage stress and maintain resiliency. School-age programs operate exempt from licensure, and run concurrent with the school operating calendar.
All participants receive a Virginia Beach Recreation Center membership!
KidzQuest After School Programs in Schools
Our KidzQuest program encourages kids to be kids. We highlight the importance of physical activity, as our generation of youth is now more than ever facing health problems, such as childhood obesity. Our program aims to tackle that issue head-on in a child-friendly, entertaining way. On any given day, participants take part in high-energy to moderate playtime activities, as well as quiet time for homework, and other fun activities to stimulate the mind. We have an array of special events for your child to take part in, including talent shows, Adopt-a-School grounds, meeting guest speakers, and fun, educational field trips!

After School Programs at Recreation Centers
Our school-age program is offered at all six of our Virginia Beach Recreation Centers. Each of them boasts the same high-quality components, such as a safe and comfortable environment for children to come and be a kid, as well as encouraging responsibility. This program has the added bonus of access to recreation center amenities like the game rooms, gymnasiums and indoor swimming pools! We provide participants with a homework time, field trips, and in some locations even racquetball and a rock climbing wall!
We understand the importance of recreation for children to be their best self, socially, emotionally, and physically. Our fun and educational activities stimulate the children, and help them reach cognitive developmental milestones. Our program aims to provide children the skills that allow them to better manage stress and maintain resiliency.

Customer Reviews
Windsor Woods Elementary After School Program
"My daughter loves attending this program so much that I receive scowls and dirty looks from her when I arrive too early to pick her up from the afterschool program. The leaders are fun, loving, kind and caring. They treat children and parents with the utmost respect and kindness. They are angels. I know that when I am at work, my child is looked after and cared for."

Fairfield Elementary After School Program
"The Fairfield Elementary School afterschool staff have continuously done a great job supporting and encouraging our students. As a teacher and parent at FES, I have seen how well the staff members interact with the students. My students cannot wait to get to afterschool! They truly make a difference in every child's life."

RISE After School Program at Seatack Elementary
"Ms. LaVonia is one of the best caregivers in this program. The kids respect her and always have a smile on when she is there. This community is a better one because of her. As a parent, it is nice to know your child is in good hands."
