Tidewater Community College and the City of Virginia Beach have partnered to create a unique joint library, delivering more services to the TCC campus and to the entire Beach community than either organization could deliver separately. Located on TCC's Virginia Beach campus, on the corner of Rosemont Road and Faculty Blvd., the library is 125,000 square feet - more than two football fields.
Expanded Collections & Services
TCC students will enjoy an expanded popular materials collection, while residents will have increased access to academic materials. The library will feature thousands of books, periodicals, CDs, DVDs and more, with seamless, convenient service to all.
The building is open according to TCC’s library hours, extending public library service access by about 13 hours more per week when TCC is in session. Customers must abide by TCC campus policies while visiting the Joint-Use Library.
There are about 360 computers, including 200 available for drop in use, free Wi-Fi access, numerous computer labs and private study rooms. There's also a dynamic children’s room, a public meeting room, collaborative work spaces, a café, plenty of on-site parking and more.
RRMM Architects of Norfolk teamed with two California firms, Carrier Johnson of San Diego, nationally known for library designs; and Anderson Brule of San Jose, specialists in joint use libraries. The building is energy efficient with LEED gold certification.
Costs for the $43 million project were split, with 80% from TCC, 20% from the City.
