Mayor Will Sessoms, members of the Friends of the Virginia Beach Public Library and lots of families and children helped VBPL celebrate the new Early Literacy Center at Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library on Friday, April 13.
The center is a special area in the library that features furnishings and activities that are welcoming and inviting to young children and their parents. It encourages children to explore, talk and play, which helps them gain skills needed for early literacy.
Following the ceremony, Mayor Sessoms and Library Director Marcy Sims unveiled a plaque honoring the Friends group, which donated the funds to create the center.
