Sounds of excited fifth graders and cheering parents will fill the air at Meyera E.
Oberndorf Central Library, Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. Nine teams of students from schools all over the city will compete for first place in the fourth annual Battle of the Books, hosted by Virginia Beach Public Library.
Battle of the Books is a “Jeopardy”-style competition in which teams of fifth graders from Virginia Beach City Public Schools and local private schools answer trivia questions based on 10 books pre-selected by library staff. More than 500 fifth graders, parents and teachers from across Virginia Beach participated in preliminary battles that began earlier this month at most library locations. From an initial 40 teams, the final nine emerged, hailing from Alanton (two teams), Arrowhead, Baylake Pines, Christopher Farms; Cooke, Creeds and Indian Lakes elementary schools.
The winning team will receive a trophy to display at their school, as well as gold medals, “first place” ribbons, and gift certificates to Barnes & Noble.
